Engel 3086 Electric Pencil Hardness Tester

Traditional pencil hardness testers are limited in their reproducibility and repeatability due to two key factors: one is the variability of movement speed, and the other is the change in force applied by the user manually crossing the coating.

The ISO 3086 electric pencil hardness tester uses the same testing methods and principles as the ISO 501, but utilizes completely independent operation to eliminate the aforementioned two factors of variation. The built-in engine drives the instrument to continuously and uniformly sweep across the coating surface, with a fixed and user-defined force ranging from 0-10N (0-2.25lbF).

The pen core is clamped by a pen tube and can be quickly replaced with different hardness values to determine the hardness level of the coating.

The Engel 3086 is made of anodized aluminum and can be advanced (cracking method) or retracted (scoring method) as required.
